Welcome to the 1554 Plate Fleet Research Society, an organization dedicated to researching, preserving, and sharing the extraordinary history of the 1554 Spanish Plate Fleet and the men and women whose lives were forever changed by one of the greatest maritime disasters in North American history.
We bring together historians, archaeologists, divers, researchers, educators, students, and history enthusiasts who share a passion for uncovering the truth behind the fleet, its survivors, and its lasting legacy.
Our Society believes that history is our greatest treasure. Every document, artifact, map, and survivor account helps us better understand the events of 1554 and preserve them for future generations.
Our Mission
The mission of the 1554 Plate Fleet Research Society is to promote responsible historical research, public education, archaeological stewardship, and the preservation of the history of the 1554 Spanish Plate Fleet.
We are committed to honoring the survivors, respecting cultural heritage, and encouraging research grounded in documented evidence.
